About Walnut City
Who We Are
Hi, I'm Allan, the craftsman behind Walnut City.
Every piece you see here is designed, crafted, and finished by hand in my small Missouri workshop. I enjoy working with beautiful hardwoods, from rich walnut and warm cherry to striking purpleheart, transforming each piece into something functional and timeless.
For me, woodworking is about more than shaping lumber. It's about creating pieces that become part of everyday life, whether they're used to prepare a family meal, serve guests around the table, or celebrate a special occasion.
Why I Build
At Walnut City, I believe some of life's best moments happen when people gather together.
Whether it’s a homemade pizza on a Friday night, a charcuterie board shared during the holidays, or friends gathering for a bourbon tasting, I believe these moments become some of life’s best memories.
The products I build are meant to be used, shared, and enjoyed, becoming part of the traditions and memories that make a house feel like home.
That belief is at the heart of everything I create.
The Story Behind Walnut City
Walnut City takes its name from a small Kansas town that no longer appears on most maps.
Originally the county seat of Rush County, Walnut City lost that distinction when a land survey moved the county seat several miles away in 1876. The community eventually became Rush Center, the town where I grew up exploring Walnut Creek, fishing with family and friends, and discovering the satisfaction of working with my hands.
Walnut has always been my favorite hardwood. Choosing the name Walnut City honors both the place that helped shape me and the craftsmanship that inspires every project I build today.
Crafted for Gathering. Made for Memories.
